Tzatziki, also known as tzadziki or tsatsiki, is a Greek meze or appetizer.
The word derives from the Turkish cacik, which marks a form of chutney. The cited Turkish side dish is actually diluted, though with similar ingredients.
Tzatziki is traditionally made of strained yoghurt, commonly sheep's or goat's milk in Greece and Turkey. Yoghurt is blended with salt and pepper, cucumbers, garlic and dill, with the optional addition of lemon juice, parsley, or even mint. Tzatziki is always served cold. The cucumbers can be either pureed and strained, or seeded and then sliced in even sized cubes. Most common garnishes for tzatziki include olive oil, olives and various Mediterranean herbs.
